How To Use This Site
The site is split into a number of sections which are listed at the top left of the page (below the Unison logo). Whichever section you are viewing these main navigational links are always available.
Some sections have a number of sub-sections - these are always displayed in column at the left of the page.
The main right hand column contains links to national Unison news. Clicking on any of these links leads directly to the main Unison website. Web users will need to use their browser's back button to return to this site.
Changing Text Size
The simplest way to do this is by using 'control+' to increase or 'control-' to decrease (to return to normal use 'control0' -zero). This works in most modern browsers but can be erratic in Internet Explorer. There is also an option, under the 'view' menu of your browser, to increase or decrease text size. Be aware that increasing text size by too much may alter the layout and make side menus overlap the main content.
The site has its own stylesheet and experienced used may overide this or switch it off. This is complex and is for users who have regular need to do this and therefore the knowledge or support from a disabled organisation to do this. As there are so many factors involved in creating a viewable page for all those who need to make ammendements to the style and layout it is beyond the scope of this page to explain all the possibilities. However the site is desigend to allow user modifications and for the use of audio reader applications in common use.
Accessibility
The site is designed to meet the latest accessibility standards and largely does so. However we have no control over external feeds (news items etc) which are not as standards compliant. The site will be kept under regular review to ensure accessibility standards are adhered to as far as possible. Any site user experiencing difficulties should email accessibility@webelementary.co.uk detailing the particular issue and we will endeavour to help increase accessibility.
Site Search
This uses Google technology, as we firmly believe this is the best available. Google indexes site pages about once a week so any changes to the site will not be immediately available. search results from any search engine cannot be guaranteed to give the exact results you are looking for, rather they should act as a pointer towards getting the information. The site is of medium size with some 200+ pages (including downlaodable PDF's which Google does index) so searches should be fairly specific - searching for 'pay' may bring too many results 'pay offer' or 'equal pay' will help narrow results to what you are looknig for. Words such as 'a' , 'an' or 'and' are ignored by the search engine. A search for 'fair wage' will first list pages with 'fair age' in them include pages with just 'fair' or 'wage' in.
